I’ve decided to take the plunge and do two shows of the Western Canada tour:
Edmonton, Thu May 23 – Sun May 26
Calgary, Thu May 30 – Sun Jun 2
I’m really excited! It has been decades since I’ve been to Alberta, but I loved it and can’t wait to see the mountains again!
I won’t put up a pre-book page, as this is my first time Reading in Edmonton and Calgary, but check out the details by clicking on the links above.
I just finished packing for the four day Thunder Bay Fair. Gonna be awesome! Tell all your friends and come on down! Looking forward to seeing the newly renovated hotel we’re staying at too!
As a follow-up to my previous post, here’s an excellent article by Rabble on the strike and the working conditions of the strikers.
In January I got a great deal for this weekend’s Thunder Bay show through Porter. Soon after, Porter fuel workers (COPE 343) went on strike- pushed by Porter’s dangerous and stingy practices.
I have loved flying Porter, but everyone deserves a safe working environment and a living wage. Porter fuel workers make roughly $4/hour less than their counterparts, and are not issued proper fire retardant clothing. I admire the courage and tenacity of these newly unionized, and undoubtedly frightened workers taking a stand, and not backing down.
So today, I called Porter and told them I was unwilling to cross the picket line. I said I would be happy to fly Porter again, once Porter had rectified this situation. The Porter rep said Porter understood, and they issued me a credit. I bought a new ticket (Air Canada one way, West Jet the other).
It was significantly more expensive, and took me all morning, but I feel better now. I have stood with workers for the right of all of us to earn a living wage and to have safe working conditions. I extend to Porter workers my best wishes and solidarity.
And I say to all those who visit this site and who fly Porter, sometimes a better world is built on small choices. Please. While this strike is going on, don’t cross the picket line. And don’t fly Porter.
Work permitting, I try to attend International Women’s Day. This year I was unable to go. However, I’d been asked to sing at an IWD breakfast celebration in Toronto. And I wanted to do something to honor both IWD and Idle No More – a powerful native movement resisting the Harper agenda. So I wrote a song called “Idle No More” and created a video retrospective of all the rallies I’d been to between (and including) IWD 2012 – IWD 2013 focusing on the women at the rallies.
It is called Toronto Women Rising! IWD 2012 – 2013
Check it out and share widely. And sisters – stand together, stand strong, and resist! :-)
Ok, so there’s one more big show for me before I focus on individual clients and my creative work over the Spring and Summer. I’m doing a four day New Age Fair in Thunder Bay. So if your a TBay-ian, bring your friends and come on down!
As I noted in Upcoming Events, I will likely spend the Spring and Summer focusing on my creative work, and doing private phone/Skype/in person readings. And I am hoping to offer bi-weekly reading specials. We’ll see!
Our promoters are doing a 4 month tour of Western Canada. At this point, I am not planning on doing any of the cities, but if that changes, I will post the dates and cities here. So check back often!
New 2013 Psychic Fair Dates
I will be doing the February 22 – 24 Brampton Psychic Fair. I will add any new dates to my Upcoming Events Page!
NEW!! Brampton, February 22 – 24
Burlington, March 1-3
Kingston, March 22-24
London, March 29-31
Thunder Bay, April 5-8
I’ve added the All-In-One Event Calendar to the website!! Should make things easier for everyone, cos you can check the calendar for details both from the mini-calendar on the sidebar and from the full-size calendar on the Upcoming Events page! You can add any events (Psychic Fairs) to your calendar just by clicking the button! You can check out what spots are still available, and also pre-book, just by clicking on the Fair you’re interested in going to. A page will pop up that will have events details, appointments booked, and my handy dandy pre-book form.
I haven’t had time to do co-ordinate the colors so, the colors kinda clash! - but when I have a moment (sometime in April probably) I’ll spruce the colors up. For now, do some exploring and get used to the new format.
Belated Happy Valentine’s Day!
Now, I’m single and an activist so it’s more about V-Day than roses. This is year playwright and activist Eve Ensler, who wrote the (in)famous Vagina Monologues, created an event to speak out against violence against women. Flash mobs were held around the world – most to a moving dance anthem, and using choreography created by actor Debbie Allen. It was amazing!!!
I went down, of course, armed with my trusty camcorder and dancing shoes and participated. I also edited and posted a great video of the One Billion Rising rally in Toronto at Nathan Phillips Square. It was an amazing day! Check it out!
I put up the Chant Mix of a fabulous Sanskrit affirmation for prosperity (on my sister channel, Nadine MacKinnon Music). The chant is at the bottom of the screen so you can chant along. Chant for 40 days. If you like it, please share widely!
